Inside the data
From the Data Hub · DERTT

Autocratization, one at a time

DERTT reads 9,677 country-year human rights reports from the U.S. State Department, Freedom House, and Amnesty International with an open-weight LLM and precision-first prompts, then deduplicates what it finds. The result: a global dataset of 76,792 unique incidents of democratic erosion across six event types, from rights suspensions and electoral fraud to violence against critics, each traceable to the exact sentences in the source report.
